Kingseat Mental Hospital, built in 1904, was located by Newmacher, Aberdeenshire where ‘factuous and insane persons were attended to’ as reported by the Aberdeen Daily Journal. The hospital continued to care for it’s patients throughout the 20th Century including a period when it was taken over by the Naval authorities during WWII for those injured in the Atlantic and Arctic conflicts. It finally closed in 1995 when care in the community became more prominent and after a period of neglect has now been developed into new housing.
