Despite its close proximity to the rapid urbanisation and commercialism evident within much of Bangkok today the district of Khlong Toey remains socially and economically disadvantaged with its slum housing, low incomes, limited basic amenities and the rise of drug-use and crime. Without little evidence of legal ownership many of its residents now face an increasing threat of eviction from their dwellings as the authorities and developers look to lay claim on the area. Despite this however there remains a quiet dignity, pride, resilience and enterprise within its people as they continue to go about their daily lives.
